Were are from the United States, can we just use our drivers license to drive in Scotland?

Agent

Permanent driver's license with experience of not less than 1 year, not containing marks on significant offenses. Holders of driving licenses issued in the UK must present a driving license with a photograph. If the text of your driver's license is not written in Latin (for example, Arabic, Greek, Russian or Chinese), you will need to show both international and national driving licenses. In the event that a driver's license is issued in a country that is not a party to the international convention on road traffic, an official translation must be attached to them. When renting within the EU, customers from countries outside the EU must also present an international driving license.

I clicked on one of the cars important information boxes and it stated we needed the international driving permit?

Agent

Yes, but only if your licence was written in Greek or Russian or Chinese you would need one.
